I Didn’t Say Anything | June 12, 2013

For tonight’s ‘Soundscape’ show I preview some of the latest releases that have caught my attention.  One group whose work continues to stand out is Coppice, the duo of Noé Cuéllar and Joseph Kramer. I had a chance to ask them some questions regarding their latest release, Compound Form, on Triple Bath as well as some of their ideas regarding their processes.

The first track I played tonight was:

1.)  Michael Pisaro – ‘I Didn’t Say Anything’ – TombstonesHuman Ear Music – 2012 + 2013 (CD) Germany

Though ‘Tombstones‘ was initially released at the end of last year on vinyl by Human Ear Music.  This spring it was re-issued as a CD with two additional tracks.  This is Michael Pisaro’s reworking of ‘pop’ music.  Pisaro describes the process of the recording session that he ‘takes tiny fragments of old and not-so-old songs and puts them into an experimental music situation, introducing them to a kind of choas, where the arrangement of the written out material is up for grabs.  The release stand-ups throughout the entire disc, captivating and beautiful.  Our only hope for the future is that this is what ‘pop’ music will become.

2.  Coppice – ‘Compound Form’  – Compund Form  –  Triple Bath – 2013 (Greece)

The duo of Noé Cuéllar and Joseph Kramer are in fine form for their latest release.  For ‘Compound Form’ they extract and redevelop previous works into this thoroughly mesmerizing  and immense piece.  Highly recommended!!!

3.  Dedalus Ensemble – ‘Lieux De Passage’ – DedalusPotlatch – 2013 (France)

‘Lieux de passage’ was featured on the Wandelweiser 6CD box set issued last year.  A beautifully crafted piece.  I hope to review this piece in the coming week.
