Andy Stott, Kowton, Michael Red, Max Ulis and Austin Phillips
January 23 @ 10:00 pm – 2:00 am | $25-$30
The Fox Cabaret
2321 Main Street
Vancouver, Unceded Coast Salish Territory
Two English heavyweights are coming to what is fast becoming Vancouver’s most consistent venue for electronic music (all the better since the upgraded sound system). Though both fall on the dub techno spectrum, we here at Cut And Run are hoping that the moody mid-winter sound of Andy Stott will be nicely contrasted by Kowton’s punchier bass-driven jams. And sure, we’ve all seen Michael Red a dozen times, but when has he ever disappointed?
Tickets were $20, now $25, and you can get them over at the Fox.
From The Fox Cabaret’s site:
During the latter part of the 2000s, Manchester-based DJ/producer Andy Stott evolved from making high-quality dub techno to releasing a singular and more adventurous strain, with an approach that favoured dark tempos and unsettling, sample-based textures. His stellar latest record Faith in Strangers features some of Stott’s least and most abrasive material.
Hailing from Bristol, Kowton is one of the UK’s brightest up-and-coming producers and DJs. Combining dub influences with a nod to techno and house textures, his multi-faceted sound found its roots in Bristol’s heady musical spectrum before taking on a life totally of its own.
