Illuha, Mathieu Ruhlmann & Kristin Roos, En and Segue @ VIVO
1965 Main Street, Vancouver
Thursday, August 9th, 2012
Soundscape is co-curating an evening of multinational minimalism and drone featuring Illuha (12K – Tokyo), En (Root Strata – San Francisco), Kristin Roos & Mathieu Ruhlmann (3LEAVES – Vancouver) and Segue (Vancouver). Your faithful Soundscape DJs will be there in force, DJing the lounge and remaining generally aloof (it’s what we do best).
Corey Fuller and Tomoyoshi Date, performing as Illuha, are currently based in Tokyo. Born in Argentina and the United States respectively, their work focuses on reconciling multiple geographies with musical culture, and has appeared on Taylor Deupree’s imprint 12K.
The duo of James Devane and Maxwell August Croy, appearing as En, has been producing melodic and delicate drones for several years. Croy co-runs the label Root Strata, on which their first album appeared. Their second, Already Gone, was just released on Students Of Decay.
Kristin Roos is a mainstay of the electroacoustic community in Vancouver, whose work focuses on manipulated field recordings and samples. He will be joined by the talented and prolific sound artist Mathieu Ruhlmann (co-curating the evening).
Segue (Jordan Sauer) mixes acoustic and electronic sound sources in minimal forms to expansive effect. You can find his work on Tokyo Droning, Databloem and Autoplate.
